Walid Mehanna, Head of Data & Analytics Mercedes-Benz Cars at Daimler AG
Prior to his current position, he spent thirteen years in management consulting, supporting large corporations within the interface between business and IT.
Abstract Summary: In this talk, Walid Mehanna shares insights from the ongoing journey to build a data function at Mercedes-Benz Cars Finance and to embed it into the company's most inner workings.
Mayur is head of the Data Analytics Group in the Global Compliance Division. Prior to joining the firm, Mayur worked at Google, where he designed search algorithms and was an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Missouri.
Abstract Summary: In this talk we will describe our data-first approach to building a platform for surveillance. We will show how building a comprehensive surveillance platform requires scalability, business understanding, and smart algorithms that work on large amounts of text, graph (social networks), and time series data.
Jeremy's current focus is building data products to improve Kickstarter's user experience and refining the company's approach to the design and analysis of experiments.

Daniel is a Data Scientist on the Content Insights team at Spotify where he works on empowering Spotify's content strategy, particularly focused on new content types and understanding the effect of integrating this content into the user experience.
Abstract Summary: Daniel will be giving an overview of how the transition of music consumption to streaming has created a treasure trove of data around listening habits. He will focus on how the Content Insights team uses this data to empower Spotify's content strategy, ranging from promoting new music on playlists to valuing content and understanding its impact on user growth.

Chris Wiggins, Lead Analytics Architect at The New York Times
Chris Wiggins is an associate professor of applied mathematics at Columbia University and the Chief Data Scientist at the New York Times. Prior to joining the faculty at Columbia he was a Courant Instructor at NYU (1998-2001) and earned his PhD at Princeton University (1993-1998) in theoretical physics. In 2014 he was elected Fellow of the American Physical Society and is a recipient of Columbia's Avanessians Diversity Award.
As a Senior Software Engineer at Red Hat, Michael is constantly looking for ways to use the latest and greatest machine learning technology to improve and optimize business strategy.
Abstract Summary: In this talk, you’ll hear about how Red Hat is using deep learning to discover meaningful entity representations in a number of different settings.
Before Better Mortgage, he spent five years at Spotify managing teams working with machine learning and data analytics, in particular music recommendations.
Abstract Summary: Erik developed a library called “Annoy” that uses a forest of random tree to do fast approximate nearest neighbor queries in high dimensional spaces. He will cover some specific applications of vector models and how Annoy works.

Chris Ryan, Data Tech Lead at The Muse
Chris holds a PhD from UC Berkeley where he used computer simulations to study statistical physics problems in biology. He is now Tech Lead at The Muse.
Abstract Summary: This talk will focus on how the Data team at The Muse built different machine learning models to meet the scaling needs of two text-based features.
As one of the early employees of Dataiku, Kurt spearheaded Dataiku's international expansion and was at the forefront of their entry into the US market in 2015 and its growth in 2016.
